Can you have both influence and authenticity?
In the saturated world of social media, the word influencer has started to take on an inauthentic vibe. The hummingbirds are here to change that.
Our hummingbirds have influence, but it looks different than what you might expect. Hummingbirds are everyday people influencing at the community level. They don’t have epic follower counts rivaling celebrity influencers and that’s what makes them so powerful! By partnering with the hummingbirds, you are harnessing their authentic enthusiasm and grass-roots level trust and directing it towards your brand.

Why the hummingbirds are more authentic than paid influencers:
- Our birds get to opt in to partnerships. We have hundreds of hummingbirds in our charm and it’s growing every day (Want in? Join us!) If a partnership comes along offering a perk that they’re not interested in, they don’t say yes. It’s that simple! We ask our birds to only sign up for opportunities that are a HELL YES! to ensure that we’re matching the right birds with the right brands. We’re not holding the bird’s feet to the fire to hit a certain number of influencers per partnership just to make it look successful. Genuine interest = authentic yes’.
- The hummingbirds don’t get paid. Those who participate in a partnership get perks– a free fitness class, some free pizzas, a gift card to an online store– so they’re able to experience what they’re posting about and share their real feelings about it. As hummingbirds CTO Matt Niblock shared recently, “It’s not a pay to play scheme. It’s our hummingbirds saying, ‘Yes, I’m interested in this business’ and ‘I want to see my community thrive’ and we’re bringing those two things together.” When there’s no money on the table for them, the hummingbirds don’t feel pressured to share something untrue just to get paid.
- We don’t tell the hummingbirds what to say in their posts. Aside from asking the ‘birds to tag the brands they’re talking about, there’s no copy/paste sales lines in their captions. Everyone in the charm is encouraged to take their perk and run with it– how does it most make sense for their personal brand and their online audience to talk about it? For example, our hummingbirds love Nosh Cafe + Eatery. A hummingbird with a parenting blog might post about how much her kids love Nosh’s frozen yogurt selection, while someone who lives in the East Village raves about how Nosh is their go-to coffee place, while yet another hummingbird who works at the capitol building will highlight how Nosh is their go-to for healthy lunch options.
Bottom line, authentic content and engagement is created through trust. At Hummingbirds Headquarters, we work to ensure that our processes and standards are creating a win/win for both the business and the birds. Nothing is forced, there is no exchange of money, and the birds get to own their voice and their platform. We trust our birds will create epic content to represent our partners and that trust is rewarded when we see our hummingbirds’ followers engaging and liking their posts, following up in DMs and purchasing the partners’ products.
Our thriving community is built on the authentic exchanges of everyday conversation and yours can be too. Reach out to start an enthusiastic conversation on behalf of your brand! Content the hummingbirds produce is an organic extension of that.
